The Challenge | Making a Splash on a Tight Timeline
World Maritime Day is an internationally recognized celebration of the maritime industry, and 2019 marked its launch in Vancouver hosted by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. BRANDLIVE was engaged in a short planning window of 6 weeks to support VFPA by managing the programming and operational components of the activities at Canada Place.
The Strategy | Entertain and Educate
With an objective to celebrate Vancouver’s maritime community and educate the public on port operations and initiatives, World Maritime Day set out to present a wide array of land and water-based activities, including a boat parade, harbour tours, family-friendly musical performances, exhibitor booths and speaker presentations. The BRANDLIVE team used its extensive knowledge of the event site, and long-standing relationship with VFPA, to quickly and efficiently build an operational plan and on-site resourcing to support the family-friendly programming and activities at Canada Place.
The Impact | Celebrating the Maritime Community
In its inaugural year, Vancouver’s World Maritime Day attracted 7,500 attendees, garnered coverage from local media outlets including The Vancouver Sun, Rock 101 and CFox, and showcased local talent including SEABILLY, Bob’s & Lolo, Sarah Wheeler Band, and The Paperboys. The event succeeded in bringing together major players including OceanWise, BC Ferries, Seaspan, Transport Canada, and the Canadian Coast Guard to educate and entertain the public and demonstrate the integral part the Maritime industry plays in the local and national economy.
